The Final Waltz is my debut solo album which will be released on Fellside Records in October 2015. The idea of a solo album was the brainchild of Paul Adams at Fellside, who wanted to give me a bit of a project on my gap year- much more productive than going backpacking or working in Tesco. The initial idea was for me to do an instrumental album, but as time went on, I realised that I wanted to put a few songs on it. Song writing is something that I’ve always done in private, but never really had the confidence in to put anything into the public domain. Three of the four songs on the album are self-penned, and it took a long time to get them to a stage where I was finally happy to record them. But they’re fantastic now. I hope.
The majority of the album, however, is instrumental, and the tunes that are used in the sets are a selection of my favourites that I’ve learnt over the last 11 years of playing Irish fiddle. Rather than recording every tune set with fiddle and guitar and producing a really traditional-sounding album, I wanted to combine traditional tunes with a contemporary-style of accompaniment, which hopefully might make the music more “listenable” to for younger people. This album is influenced by many different artists over many different genres of music, which produces a fairly unique style.
At the end of the day, I’m really proud of what I’ve produced, and I’d love it if everyone who listens to the album enjoys it as much as I enjoyed making it.
The album is available to order online HERE.
